Alli Stradiotto of Team Texas running in Big Bend National Park Olympians,   We've entered a new year and are anticipating an event soon in Tuba City, but until then, let's check in on the winners of the 3000m Team Run, and find a wrap up of 2022, including our first ever Athlete of the Year  at page bottom. Just Finished:  Athletics XIV: 3000m Team Race L asting November through December, the 3000m Team Race was another remote event which encouraged runners to rep their home state and send in their times. A throwback to Olympic events a century ago, the state teams (and Belgium) were scored based on the finishing positions of its runners. Al Peterson started off the competition with a blistering, sub 14 minute run, making Minnesota the first team on the board. Wisconsin then joined in the fun, and kept it neck and neck with MN until the end. Vermont, Arizona, and Belgium entered some notable times, but in the final few days of 2022, Team Ohio sent in three of the five fa...

Sweeping the medals at Curling I Olympians,   The 3k run is still going on through the end of the month, and our song contest and curling have just ended. Coming up NOW! - Athletics XIV: 3000m Team Race - Anywhere! T wo weeks in and we've already had a few runners sending in times for their 3k runs. Last check of the leaderboard showed Team Wisconsin in the lead after a tandem effort by Lori Nigon and Artski Sexauer. You can participate early and often, too! Just run a 3k and send in your time, and if you run again and improve, send in your new time! Competition ends at the end of the month. Just Finished: Curling I: Teams of 4 W hat's that cold weather state with all plenty of ice and Celtic rock sliding notoriety? Oh right, New Mexico! This past weekend, five athletes timidly shuffled onto the ice in their tennis shoes for what turned into a three end game of curling! After some warming up (and cooling down on the ice after loosing their balance), manager J. Boege's Z...

Running with the Turkeys

Newly Minted Medals Olympians,   The music event has entered the voting rounds and we can now turn our attention to one of the darkest months of the year, and a new event to liven it up. NOW though November 30th- Athletics XIV: 3000m Team Race - Anywhere! I n honor of Turkey Trots everywhere, and our highly successful 5km remote running event in 2019, we bring you the 3000m Team Race as an event anyone anywhere can enter this month. A throwback to the 1912 through 1924 Olympics, the 3000m Team Race included teams of three or more running a 3k race. In Our competition, you can participate simply by sending in your timed 3k run from anytime this month. The times will then be put on a leaderboard , and each region's team will score points from its top three finishers. Teams will be determined by the region where you reside, not who you run with or where you run. Regions are divided by US states and other countries. FAQ: How can I be sure that I'll have a team of at least 3 from ...

LIVE from Tuba City!

Boast: Just won a 5k! Olympians,   After a prolonged (and quite fun) summer break, we're easing back into events. We've left our tiny apartment in the brave little state of Vermont for a giant three bedroom about an hour away from the Grand Canyon. As we continue to work on meeting people here, there may be more "anywhere" events than normal, for past and future competitors to join at will. Cue the first of these: NOW though Halloween - Art III: Music I t's true. Music has been a medal event at the Olympic Games. Three categories divided up orchestral, instrumental, and choral music, but all had to be "inspired by sport". Our competition will be structured a little differently: Create an original* song as your personal theme or anthem. Think of it like the intro to your own TV show, your pump up song as you step up to bat, or a ditty that you whistle as you amble down the street. All instruments, including your own voice, are fair game. You may also use ...

Bon Voyage!

Lake Life Olympians,   We are bidding farewell to Vermont, but snuck in one last event this week on the one, the only, Lake Champlain! Just Finished: Canoeing/Kayaking III: K-2 500m T he summer solstice brings to mind never-ending rays and bright skies aplenty. Not so on Burlington's waterfront this year! Five daring paddlers slid off the dock just as a storm was sliding off the east slopes of the Adirondacks and coming across Lake Champlain. It was a three hours race, well sort of. Two teams of tandem kayakers faced off with Max Licker going solo in a whitewater craft. Off the dock, it was the Yellow Vests (Kelly Richard and C) striking forward to lead while some dragon boat traffic ruined any chances of our boats keeping a straight trajectory to the finish. The Blue Vests (Gustave and Katrina Sexauer) trailed until passing the public dock which served as a secondary breakwater. The swells then surged to 1-2 feet in magnitude, and the Yellow Vests fell to the back with Licker out ...

Attendance Record = Broken Olympians,   Thanks to everyone who showed up for ice dancing on Friday night. We broke our in-person attendance record set during mini golf back in April 2019 with the 13 who showed up at center ice last week! Just Finished: Figure Skating II: Ice Dance P ranks be darned, we actually held an event on April Fool's Day, but I'm sorry to report it wasn't extreme ironing. Instead, 13 skaters turned out for our foray into ice dancing! Pairs had just 20 minutes to plan a routine and rehearse before presenting their minute-long show live before their competitors acting as judges. Isabella and Kelly bravely went first in their matching attire, at the mercy of the untrained judges preliminary marks on a 6 point scale. Laura and Emma followed them up with a heart warming routine. Following that, we saw a variety of themed routines from the underwater love story by C and Luna, the four seasons interpreted by Julia and Ayden, and a hide and seek chase by Ale...

Winter Sports Hang On

Richards practicing her sharp shooting. Olympians,   Despite the calendar calling it Spring, the weather has brought some late chilly days and snow squalls to Burlington. Rather than fight the mood, we're going to revel in a one more winter event! Coming Up: Figure Skating II: Ice Dance J oin us 6:30-7:30 at Leddy Ice Arena in Burlington on Friday, April 1st (it's really not a joke!). Gustave has rented out the studio rink, which is smaller than a normal hockey rink, for that hour, so please show up in a timely manner. We'll do some warm up skating, and then you'll have one minute to lay down your best free skate routine with a partner. Even if you arrive solo, we'll find you a partner! Feel free to bring your own jams to crush your "well rehearsed" routine to. All attendees and non-skating spectators will serve as honorable ice dance judges. Just Finished: Biathlon I: 5km Sprint O n one of those post-rain, icy days this winter, two of our athletes ventu...
