Going It Alone

1st Place, unopposed

Olympians,

I recently signed up for a Nordic ski race and wasn't able to rouse any of Our friends to make the drive to compete in Flagstaff, but was determined to enter the race solo. As I went to retrieve my registration packet I announced that I was in the 10km classic race and got the reply, "You must be Gustave! You're the only one in that division." Racing at Nordic Village got me thinking about the future of Our Olympics, and the struggle it is for anyone, myself included, to agree to try something new or to even have the free time to do it. Our Games have periodically struggled with attendance, but after joining a race organized by an outside organization and finding myself alone in my division, it's clear that Our Olympics is no worse off than larger and more established sporting groups. We will continue in the quest to see our athletes compete in every Olympic event, because any periods of struggle are worth pushing through for those moments of triumph. I do hope that next time you're able, you'll share the podium with me.

Ongoing Events

Off to a tepid start, Breaking: Individual is underway with our novice dancers sending in videos for the opening round!

They say "no news is good news", so let's hope that's true as Pickleball Singles and Doubles tournaments enter their second year. There is still room to sign up and join the group stages!

New Sports

As stated at top, it's Our goal to host or join in on a competition in every event currently in the Olympic Games. There are hundreds of events, but on a coarser level, they are categorized by sport. Many of the events we hold in Our Olympics happen because of a single passionate athlete sharing their sport with the rest of us. Take a look at the list below of sports we have yet to dabble in, and if you can think of a way to hold the competition, let's get planning!

Honorable Mentions - Artski talks fast

Something to do with speed and sports! I have always liked fast sports.  Over the years I raced motorcycles, sailboats, windsurfers, and in alpine ski racing. - Artski Sexauer

These days, Artski spends his time skiing at Mt. La Crosse and hiking every trail within an hour of his house. In Our Olympics, he has won the speed skiing demonstration event, and competed in fifteen other events.

Send in your own sports story to be featured in the next blog!
