Figure Skating I: Singles
Olympians,
I'm trying something new: blog updates for Our Olympic events. If you have any feedback on this format for updates, let me know. The site is currently in a state of flux as Google is discontinuing the old "Sites" and forcing a move over to the new Google Sites which means that every page will have to be reformatted. The site will be revamped when I can throw more time at it. But without further ado:
RECAP - FIGURE SKATING I: SINGLES
It was one of the most technical and ambitious events we have ever attempted. Guided by our resident expert figure skater and eventual event judge, Raphaëlle Siemers, the format was laid out for a figure skating event filled with tricks attainable by even beginner skaters. But c'mon, a waltz jump!?
By the end of February, six athletes had braved the cold, icy flatness and sent in their videos from wherever they could find ice time. Just days ago, the short and long routines were brought before the Honorable Judge Siemers as we waited with bated breath for the decision to be passed down.
K. and G. Sexauer tore up the rinks in their local parks throughout February and chose just the right days to capture what they hoped were winning videos of their routines. Nigon and Wiebe tag-teamed their routines and certainly won any contest for "best dressed". They appeared to have carved out their own rink on a lake in the wilderness with the only flaw in their socially distanced scheme being an unleashed Millie jumping into the routines.
Honorable mentions are in order for Bailey Johnston and Andrew Sikorsky who submitted videos of skating for fun on a town rink and "ice" dancing on a snowy mountain trail, respectively.
So where are the videos, you ask?

Next Event:
With spring in the air we look on to the next event. Although it is yet undetermined, goals for the year are to hold all five new Olympic events that are coming to the Tokyo Games:
- Baseball/Softball (actually a returning event)
- Karate
- Skateboarding
- Sport Climbing
- Surfing
Any ideas for the next event are welcomed!

Sport climbing seems like a good idea :)
ReplyDeleteI see that the new Olympic event is a combined score from bouldering, top rope, and lead climbing. I don't want to have to take a zero for lead, so it's my year to go big I suppose!
DeleteHow about some cycling events? I need another gold.
ReplyDeleteI have promised Greg that I will hold a mountain biking event before his wedding. I'm hoping to have that one in-person once mud season ends.
DeleteThat would be fun, more competitive than road probably. David and Scott are faster than me on singletrack and downhill but I have better endurance and am a bit faster uphill. It would be a close competition.
